BASF boosts sustainable plastics push in China
As Shanghai & Zhanjiang plants earn ISCC PLUS certification

BASF has expanded its sustainable materials footprint in China after its engineering plastics plants in Minhang, Shanghai, and the Zhanjiang Verbund site in Guangdong Province received ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) certification.
The certification marks a major step in BASF’s drive to provide customers with locally produced engineering plastics solutions that meet growing sustainability demands across key industries, including automotive and electrical & electronics (E&E).
The ISCC PLUS certification verifies the sustainable origin and allocation of renewable and recycled feedstocks through a mass balance approach, providing independent traceability across the value chain. The milestone enables customers to make credible sustainability claims while maintaining the high performance standards required for advanced applications.

With the certification, BASF is expanding the availability of ISCC PLUS-certified engineering plastics in China, helping manufacturers respond to evolving regulatory requirements and sustainability targets.
The move is part of BASF’s wider regional strategy to scale sustainable product offerings across Asia Pacific. Following existing certifications in Korea and Malaysia, the addition of Shanghai and Zhanjiang further strengthens the company’s network of certified production sites and expands access to traceable material solutions for local customers.
