163 units in India are signatories to the RC program as of April 2023
Grasim Industries Limited (Chemical Division), part of the Aditya Birla Group, has been awarded the Responsible Care Logo by the Indian Chemical Council (ICC) for a period of three years (August 2025 – July 2028) across all nine of its chemical units at Nagda, Karwar, Renukoot, Ganjam, Rehla, Balabhadrapuram, Veraval-Grasim Chlor-Alkali, Vilayat-Grasim Chlor-Alkali and Vilayat Advanced Materials.
Responsible Care is a global voluntary initiative of the chemical industry under the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) and implemented in India by the ICC. It promotes continuous improvement and integration in environmental, health, safety and security actions of the company and thereby its performance.
As of April 2023, 163 Units in India are Signatories to the RC program and pursuing the implementation of Responsible Care Codes and Management System, 83 units are Responsible Care (RC) Logo holders in the country.
Commenting on the achievement, Jayant V. Dhobley, Business Head & CEO – Global Chemicals, Fashion Yarn & Insulators, Grasim Industries Limited, said: "Responsible Care is not a destination but a commitment. The ICC evaluation covers seven key Codes of Management Practice, including process safety, employee health & safety, pollution prevention, emergency response, distribution, product safety and stewardship, and security.
Grasim’s strong safety systems, environmental management and stakeholder engagement were commended by the audit team.
R. G. Krishnan, Joint President and Head - Safety & Sustainability, added: "The Responsible Care program rests on the robust safety and sustainability practices we have built over the years, and this recognition further strengthens our duty to advocate for its values."
Vikas Valand from the Vilayat plant echoed this sentiment: "Responsible Care means owning my actions to protect people, the environment, and future generations. This certification reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and safety, and l am proud of the role every unit has played in achieving this."
