Indian Chemical News (ICN), an online news media covering Chemicals, Petrochemicals, and Energy sector is organising a session on Efficient and Sustainable Water Treatment for Chemical Plants on May 9 at Hotel Hyatt Place, Bharuch.
The session is part of a 2-day conference titled “Gujarat Chem & Petchem Conference (GCPC) 2025” on May 8-9, 2025 at Hotel Hyatt Place, Bharuch, Gujarat. The theme of GCPC 2025 Conference 2025 is Viksit Gujarat: Viksit Bharat@2047. Please register as a delegate for the conference by clicking on the link (https://www.indianchemicalnews.com/gcpc-2025/register.php).
The main objective of the conference is to understand the fundamental issues of Chemicals and Petrochemicals plants in Gujarat and prepare a solution roadmap through various brainstorming sessions and presentations. Along with the Conference, there is an Expo where Exhibitors are displaying their latest innovations, technologies, and other offerings to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability of plants.
Water treatment in chemical plants is essential for operational efficiency, environmental compliance, and sustainability. Chemical manufacturing is water-intensive, generating wastewater with complex pollutants like heavy metals, organic compounds, and salts. Membrane filtration like reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration etc should be used for high-efficiency contaminant removal. Plants are applying electrochemical processes and advanced oxidation to degrade persistent organic pollutants.
Efficient and sustainable water treatment minimizes water use, reduces environmental impact, and enables water reuse through advanced technologies and circular approaches. Zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems are used to eliminate wastewater release, protecting local ecosystems.
The session will highlight the importance of integrating efficient, sustainable water treatment in chemical plants to conserve resources, meet regulatory standards, and support long-term environmental goals.
Speakers participating in the session are: Chaitanya Joshi, Head of Operations, Indo Baijin Chemicals; Rajeev Vijay, Head - Utilities and Offsite, ONGC Petro additions; and Keyur R. Desai, Professor of Practice, UPL University of Sustainable Technology. The moderator for the session is Murari Mohan Jha, Editor, Indian Chemical News.
Key discussion points to be covered during the session are: Advanced treatment technologies; Water efficiency and reuse; Sustainability and environmental impact; Challenges and its solutions; Balancing energy use in treatment processes; and Policy and innovation.
