It has been one year since Solvay launched Solvay One Planet, the company's roadmap for sustainable progress that increased and broadened its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments. Centered around three pillars – climate change, resource scarcity and promoting a better life – Solvay One Planet is at the heart of the ambition to create sustainable shared value for all.

This goes beyond reducing negative environmental impact: it’s about maximizing positive impact in addressing the challenges we are all faced with as inhabitants of planet Earth. This is disruptive and transformative, not only in the way we do business, but also in how we help our customers and suppliers increase their own sustainability objectives, whether it’s through solutions that enable lightweighting or switching to bio-sourced raw materials, or by developing the circular economy.

The journey is long, but Solvay's commitment remains stronger than ever. Like all industries, we are not yet where we want to be but we are part of the solution, putting our activities at the service of sustainability and circularity. In fact, despite the major disruptions caused by Covid-19, Solvay increased its ambitions in 2020, raising the bar in terms of its climate and resource objectives, as this infographic shows, while continuing to promote a better life for all Solvay employees.

All these actions are the consequence of the reinforcement of the Solvay One Planet goals by 2030. We are working to fight climate change by phasing out coal-based energy and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 26%; reducing resource consumption by generating 65% of our revenue from sustainable solutions and more than doubling our circular sales; lastly, we are continuing to improve quality of life by aiming for zero accidents and accelerating inclusion and diversity in our workforce.
