Chiyoda Corporation (Chiyoda) has been awarded a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contract from Sekisui Chemical for a carbon dioxide (CO2) to carbon monoxide (CO) chemical transformation plant (pre-treatment process for supplying bioreactors).

This plant will be used for research and development of the ‘Promotion of Carbon Recycling Using CO2 from Bio-manufacturing Technology as a Direct Raw Material | NEDO Green Innovation Fund Projects’ by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

This efficient technology transforming CO2 to CO has been developed with a CO2 conversion rate of 90% or higher, and termed ‘Chemical Looping Technology' by the customer. In addition to introduce the technology to the pre- treatment process for supplying gas for bioreactors, the FEED scope also includes CO2 capture plant from combustion gas to produce the raw materials for the reaction, hydrogen generation system and other equipment associated with Chemical Looping Technology.

CO is a key raw material for carbon neutrality technologies with future demand expected to increase, Chiyoda recognizes the significance of Chemical Looping Technology in producing CO, and will actively cooperate with its social implementation plan following FEED.
