Gulbrandsen has launched HYPORE, a new portfolio of advanced silica supports and silica-supported chromium catalyst precursors designed for polyethylene catalyst systems, marking a major expansion of the company's presence across the polyolefin catalyst value chain.
The commercial launch gives polyethylene producers, catalyst manufacturers and process-technology companies an additional source of critical catalyst components, building on Gulbrandsen's established global position in metal alkyls.
HYPORE is the culmination of a multi-year, internally led research, development and commercialization effort that has progressed from laboratory research to pilot production, commercial-scale manufacturing and customer qualification.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, Gulbrandsen has developed a flexible platform that allows silica supports and catalyst precursors to be tailored to specific polyethylene catalyst formulations, processing conditions and reactor requirements.
Commercial supplies are already available. Selected HYPORE chromium catalyst and silica grades are on the market, while customer programs are underway to develop and qualify customized products with specific particle-size distributions, pore structures, surface characteristics and metal-modification profiles. Qualification efforts span both slurry-phase and gas-phase polyethylene processes.
"HYPORE represents a significant expansion of Gulbrandsen's capabilities within the polyolefin catalyst value chain," said Abhishek C Kumar, Director, Commercial Development at Gulbrandsen.
"We have built the technical, analytical, and manufacturing capabilities needed to develop and produce these materials at commercial scale while retaining the flexibility to work with customers on highly specific catalyst requirements. Our objective is to provide customers with another technically capable, commercially scalable supply option and a development partner that can support both established and customized polyethylene catalyst systems."
The HYPORE portfolio is manufactured at Gulbrandsen's new greenfield manufacturing facility, backed by dedicated process development, analytical and quality-control capabilities. The site is designed to deliver consistent control over critical product properties, minimize batch-to-batch variability and support reliable commercial-scale supply.
The launch strengthens Gulbrandsen's position in the polyolefin catalyst market by extending its portfolio beyond metal alkyls into silica supports and chromium catalyst precursors.
The expanded capabilities enable the company to serve customers across a broader segment of the catalyst value chain, combining established catalyst-component supply with customized product development and qualification support.
