LG Chem, a global leader in advanced materials, and ZEISS, renowned for its expertise in optics and photonics, have announced a strategic alliance to deliver robust, sustainable, and industrial-scale photopolymer film supply for the automotive sector.

The partnership marks a major milestone for the emerging holography industry, particularly in Holographic Windshield Displays (HWD).

Under the agreement, LG Chem will supply photopolymer films within the ZEISS Microoptics Enabling Ecosystem, supporting integration into automotive windshields and enabling HWD functionality. The first serial production launch for automotive OEMs is scheduled for 2029.

The signing ceremony at LG Chem’s Yeouido Twin Towers brought together top executives, including LG Chem Vice President Ko Kyung-deok, Head of Electronics Materials Business Unit, and ZEISS Microoptics leaders Stephan Höfer, SVP and Head of Business Development and Marketing, and Viktor Schütz, VP and Head of Partnership Management.

The collaboration combines LG Chem’s decades of expertise in polymer synthesis, liquid formulation, and precision coating with ZEISS’ deep knowledge of microoptics and holography.

Together, the companies aim to secure a stable material supply for holography, ensuring continuous availability for automotive displays, holographic sensor systems, and consumer technologies—even amid market uncertainty.

“This partnership goes far beyond basic material delivery,” the companies said. By coordinating supply chain integration and inventory management, they guarantee today’s automotive OEM programs remain on track while safeguarding global serial production for tomorrow’s HWDs.

Viktor Schütz, VP and Head of Partnership Management at ZEISS Microoptics, said: "With LG Chem at our side, the ZEISS Microoptics Enabling Ecosystem will deliver reliable, advanced photopolymers at scale for transparent displays in automotive. By focusing together on innovation, technical standards, and supply continuity, we help customers tackle the toughest optical challenges in automotive and beyond.”

Shin Hak-cheol, CEO of LG Chem, added:"Our partnership with ZEISS is a strategic collaboration aimed at securing competitiveness based on optical technologies, beyond mere material supply. LG Chem will lead the innovation of automotive displays with differentiated optical material technologies.”
