Tata Projects has secured a significant engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GSFC) to develop an integrated phosphoric acid–sulphuric acid complex at Sikka in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Thus, marking a major push into specialised process industries.
The project will comprise a 600 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) phosphoric acid plant and a 1,800 MTPD sulphuric acid plant, along with supporting utilities and offsite infrastructure.
The complex is a key part of GSFC’s strategic expansion and backward-integration programme. It is aimed at strengthening captive raw-material supplies for phosphatic fertiliser production, reducing dependence on imported inputs and building greater resilience into the company’s operations.
For Tata Projects, the contract marks a strategic breakthrough in its process-industry business, strengthening its credentials in executing complex, technology-intensive industrial infrastructure projects.
Rajiv Menon, President & Chief Growth & Strategy Officer, Tata Projects, said, “Built on sustained engagement with GSFC, the award demonstrates our ability to compete for and secure complex industrial projects through differentiated solutions and a compelling value proposition. As we expand our presence in chemicals, fertilisers and other specialised process industries, our priority remains to build a high-quality, diversified order book anchored in technical expertise, execution credibility and enduring customer partnerships.”
The integrated nature of the project will demand close coordination across engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, given the operational interdependence of the two acid manufacturing facilities. Tata Projects will leverage its integrated EPC capabilities to manage these execution challenges and deliver the complex infrastructure.
The GSFC contract also advances Tata Projects’ broader strategy to expand its footprint in high-value industrial sectors. The company already has an established presence in power, metals and mining, oil and gas, clean energy and advanced manufacturing.
Its growing focus on chemicals and fertilisers is expected to deepen its process-engineering capabilities, diversify its industrial portfolio and strengthen its position in the specialised EPC market.
