SOCAR will supply natural gas to SEFE across Europe, with annual volumes set to gradually increase
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has signed a 10-year natural gas purchase agreement with Germany’s state-owned energy firm, Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE).
Under the agreement, SOCAR will supply natural gas to SEFE across Europe, with annual volumes set to gradually increase, reaching up to 15 terawatt-hours (TWh), equivalent to approximately 1.5 billion cubic meters (bcm).
The partnership supports continued investment in production and infrastructure, including the development of gas compressors, and will enhance the flow of pipeline gas to Europe. This strategic cooperation contributes significantly to the continent’s energy security and diversification.
Dr. Egbert Laege, CEO, SEFE, stated: “This long-term contract is a testament to the strong relationship between Germany and Azerbaijan. With this partnership, we are establishing a new route for significant gas volumes to reach Europe, thereby diversifying our portfolio and enhancing the supply security for our customers.”
Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, commented: “This agreement marks another important milestone in SOCAR’s commitment to strengthening Europe’s energy security. By delivering reliable gas volumes to SEFE, we are deepening the partnership between Azerbaijan and Germany while supporting Europe’s diversification goals and sustainable growth. SOCAR remains committed to investing in infrastructure and production capacity to ensure secure and uninterrupted energy supply for our partners.”
