Rohm granted ISCC Plus certification for MMA, PMMA products at its site in Worms

The certification allows the company to prove that the processed materials come from sustainable sources

Röhm GmbH has received the ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) PLUS certification for all methyl methacrylate (MMA)- and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) products at their largest production site in Worms (Germany). The certification allows the company to prove that the processed materials come from sustainable sources. Röhm is planning to launch the first ISCC PLUS-certified PLEXIGLAS molding compounds and MERACRYL monomers under the proTerra brand family in 2023. Other Röhm sites will also carry out the certification. The Wesseling site will follow before the end of this year.

All Röhm products with a significantly reduced CO2 footprint, that were made from sustainable raw materials, that make a significant contribution to promoting the circular economy and that save resources, such as raw materials, energy or water, qualify for the brand proTerra brand family.

ISCC PLUS is a certification for sustainable production and the use of renewable or recycled raw materials. The ISCC PLUS certification is globally recognized thanks to the traceability along the entire value chain. "The new ISCC PLUS-certified materials ideally supplement our existing sustainable proTerra product portfolio. This allows us to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals and to create trust and transparency,” says Hans-Peter Hauck, COO of Röhm GmbH.

The ISCC PLUS-certified products are manufactured according to the principle of mass balancing. Sustainable raw materials are traced along the entire value chain and in the production process and are attributed to the proTerra products via a verifiable bookkeeping. In this way, the existing product specifications and product properties are retained so that the customer can use the products without a new approval review as a drop-in solution. This approach enables the use of sustainable raw materials without compromising product quality.

Röhm’s current portfolio includes sustainable products, such as PLEXIGLAS proTerra solid sheets in black, transparent and white for trade fair and shop construction, furniture and interior design, featuring up to 90 percent recycled PLEXIGLAS polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) content. DEGAROUTE proTerra binding agents for road markings, containing 30 percent recycled PMMA, as well as DEGALAN proTerra binding agents for industrial coatings, with 35 percent recycled PMMA, are also sustainable products from Röhm. In addition, Röhm produces PLEXIGLAS proTerra multi-skin sheets and corrugated sheets for roofing, greenhouses and carports, which are made of more than 50 percent recycled acrylic glass.
