Tata Chemicals hosts 30th MEMC Week in Porbandar

Tata Chemicals acknowledges the importance of mineral conservation, rehabilitation & reclamation of the mined-out area

Tata Chemicals Limited hosted the 30th Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week 2022-23 organized by the MEMC council on Sunday, 9th April 2023 at Tajawala Hall in Porbandar. N Kamath, Chief Manufacturing Officer – Tata Chemicals Ltd. & President 30th MEMC Week Council along with PC Tank, AVP Corporate Affairs, Tata Chemicals, and Rohit Gaur, Head Mining, Tata Chemicals, presided over the event. Pankaj Kulshrestha, Chief Controller of Mines, IBM was present as the chief guest.

Speaking about the event, Kamath, President MEMC Council and Chief Manufacturing Officer and Plant Head, Tata Chemicals said “At Tata Chemicals, we acknowledge the importance of mineral conservation, rehabilitation & reclamation of the mined-out area. Our Aniali Limestone Mine in Gujarat is functioning on similar beliefs. Recognizing our best practices, it has been conferred with a five-star rating for five consecutive years by the Ministry of Mines. Apart from meeting sustainable development requirements at mines, as an industry, our focus should also be on ensuring the safety of our workforce. This event provides a platform for industry players to deliberate on these issues and learn from each other’s experiences. We have involved the local community as well to increase awareness. Our gratitude to the MEMC council for entrusting us with the opportunity to host this event.”

For the involvement of the community in the event, a friendly cricket match was organized at Saurashtra Cement ground – Ranavav, with the community from nearby villages and mining officials to spread awareness about health and well-being. The event also featured the felicitation of Okhamandal women Self Help Groups and farmers to create awareness about Millets and its health benefits in keeping with the International Year of Millets 2023.

Rajeesh Purohit, Controller of Mines (NZ), Indian Bureau of Mines, Pushpendra Gaur, Regional Controller of Mines (Gandhinagar Region) & Patron 30th MEMC Week Council, D G Randad, Director– GSCL were also present during the event. The event concluded with handing over the flag of 31st MEMC Week to Gujarat Sidhee Cement Limited, Veraval for the year 2023-24.
