The Port has allocated land for Green Hydrogen to four companies - Renew E-fuels Pvt. Ltd.; Acme Green Hydrogen & Chemicals; Green Infra Renewal Energy Farms Pvt. Ltd.; and Amplus Ganges Solar Pvt. Ltd.
V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), an autonomous body under Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, has allocated 501 acre land to four companies for the Green Hydrogen project.
The Port has been identified by MoPSW as one of the major ports among the three ports - V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Paradip Port, and Deendayal Port to be developed as Hydrogen hubs.
“India is showing the world the path to sustainable and forward-thinking development,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing out that the V.O.C. Port is being recognized as a Green Hydrogen hub and a nodal port for offshore wind energy. These initiatives will play a significant role in tackling the global challenges of climate change.

With these initiatives, the drive towards developing sustainable energy in the region will get a major boost, said Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.
These projects will attract new investments and fuel economic growth while advancing India’s renewable energy objectives, added Sonowal.
Acme Green Hydrogen & Chemicals is planning an investment of Rs. 27,000 crore for Green Ammonia Plant & Storage/Energy. Green Infra Renewal Energy Farms Pvt. Ltd. is planning an investment of Rs. 8,460 crore for Green Ammonia Plant & Storage. Amplus Ganges Solar Pvt. Ltd. is planning an investment of Rs. 6,000 crore for Green Ammonia Storage. Renew E-fuels Pvt. Ltd. is planning an investment of Rs. 400 crore for Green Ammonia Storage.
V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority is located strategically close to the East-West International sea routes on the South Eastern coast of India. Located in the Gulf of Mannar, with Sri Lanka on the South East and the large land mass of India on the West, V.O. Chidambaranar Port is well sheltered from the fury of storms and cyclonic winds. The port is operational round the clock all through the year.
