HPCL has commissioned India's first Solid Oxide Electrolyser (SOE) for green hydrogen at the HP Green R&D Centre (HPGRDC), Bengaluru. This revolutionary technology generates 99.99% pure green hydrogen, using power from a captive solar plus wind plant. Notably, this SOE system doesn’t rely on rare earth materials, slashing energy consumption by 20-30% compared to other electrolyzers.

HPGRDC has also developed breakthrough technologies in the field of refining like Hydrogen PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption), HiGas (Process Intensification), HP-DAK (production of low aromatic solvents), Hp-Trijet (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), Crude to Chemicals, HP-TDAE (Treated Distillate Aromatic Extract)

According to the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural GasHPCL is the first OMC to place an order for large industrial electrolyser. Consortium and ACME has submitted bid in response to green hydrogen/ammonia related tenders in Germany and Oman. HPCL is setting up a 370 TPA green hydrogen infrastructure at Vizag refinery.
