Arkema ramps up PVDF production in North America as demand from data centers surges

The expansion, located at the company’s Calvert City, Kentucky site, represents an investment of around $20 million

Arkema has successfully started up a 15% capacity expansion of its PVDF production in North America, strengthening its position in a material increasingly critical to the global energy transition and digital economy.

The expansion, located at the company’s Calvert City, Kentucky site, represents an investment of around $20 million and is aimed at meeting rising demand from energy storage systems, semiconductors, and fast-growing data center infrastructure.

“This capacity expansion in Calvert City, Kentucky, strengthens the Group’s leadership in PVDF. This investment of around 20 million US dollars will support the growing demand for energy storage systems and semiconductors, as well as data center rapid expansion.”

Originally announced in February 2025, the project was delivered on time and within budget, underscoring what the company describes as disciplined execution and strong project management while continuing to support customer growth across strategic markets.

Arkema says the additional output will help it serve accelerating demand tied to electrification and digitalization trends, particularly in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage systems (ESS), semiconductor manufacturing, and data center expansion driving cable and infrastructure demand.

“This expansion marks an important step in strengthening our global PVDF leadership and our ability to support the rapid growth of strategic markets,” said Laurent Tellier, Senior Vice President of Arkema’s High Performance Polymers and Fluorogases.

“The continued strong growth observed across energy storage, electronics and infrastructure applications confirms the relevance of this investment, which reflects our disciplined approach to capital allocation and our focus on delivering high-value specialty materials to our customers.”

The Calvert City site is positioned as a key supply hub for North American customers, with Arkema emphasizing its strategy of expanding regional capacity to match local demand growth.

The move also follows a broader global expansion push, including a recently announced 20% PVDF capacity increase in China, expected to come online in 2028.
