Dyestuff Manufacturers? Association of India (DMAI)
has requested the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) to ensure
uninterrupted supply of technical grade urea and potassium chloride to the
dyestuff sector for its manufacturing activities.
In a letter to the DCPC, DMAI said that technical grade urea and potassium
chloride are basic raw materials for production of dyestuffs.
?If adequate supply of these two essential raw materials is not provided to the
industry, we are afraid we may not be able to achieve out targets for exports,?
the DCPC said.
?In order to maintain the uninterrupted supply, we hereby request you to kindly
earmark 10,000 MT of technical grade urea and 6,000 MT of potassium chloride
from the PSUs exclusively for the dyestuff sector in the states of Maharashtra
and Gujarat. This will help our members to procure the same so as to maintain
the production schedule without any break and promote exports as envisaged,? it
said.
The DMAI informed the DCPC that some of its members were facing difficulties in
procuring potassium chloride and technical grade urea for their manufacturing
processes and requested it to ensure uninterrupted supply of the two products.
According to the DMAI, the industry needs around 6000 MT of potassium chloride
per annum and members are finding the shortage of this basic raw material for
the last 2-3 years.
It said that the industry is also facing shortage of urea in the past 2-3 years
as the annual requirement of urea by the dyestuff sector is 10,000 MT.
