IOCL selects CLG for Gujarat petchem and lupech project

The project scope includes the technology license, supply of proprietary equipment and catalyst and training

Chevron Lummus Global LLC (CLG) announced recently that it has been awarded a contract by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.'s Gujarat refinery for a new 270 KTPA catalytic dewaxing unit and hydrocracker revamp as part of IOCL's Petrochemical and Lube Integration Project (Lupech) in Gujarat, India. The project scope includes the technology license, supply of proprietary equipment and catalyst and training.

IOCL first commissioned a hydrocracker licensed by CLG in 1993. Now in view of the growing market demand for Group-II and Group-III base oils, CLG will revamp the existing hydrocracker to produce feedstocks for API Gr. II & III premium base oils and increase capacity from 1.2 to 1.55 MMTPA while still maintaining its current commitment to the production of clean fuels.

The new 270 KTPA catalytic dewaxing unit will employ CLG's two-step all-hydroprocessing technology route, which selectively concentrates and isomerizes the molecular structure of wax into desirable isoparaffins at high yields. Both licensed units will help improve refinery margins and expand IOCL's portfolio as a premium base oil manufacturer by contributing directly to import substitution in India.
