Symrise has secured patent protection in China for its SymSave H technology, reinforcing the position of the multifunctional cosmetic ingredient within its Care & Wellness portfolio.
The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has granted patent CN116509735B, which covers the underlying technology and is expected to enhance customer confidence in sourcing the original innovation for high-performance cosmetic formulations.
The company says the patent strengthens its competitive position in Asia’s fast-growing beauty sector while highlighting its continued focus on innovation across the region.
The newly granted protection covers compositions that combine Hydroxyacetophenone with lipophilic components in aqueous systems, spanning a wide range of formulation uses. According to Symrise, the patent provides clearer assurance of the technology’s originality and reinforces the value of obtaining it directly from the developer.
Since its introduction to the cosmetics industry in 2013, Hydroxyacetophenone has become a widely used multifunctional ingredient in modern formulations. It is known for its antioxidant performance, helping stabilize cosmetic products and maintain formulation quality.
It also offers soothing properties for skin exposed to everyday environmental stressors. Its role in broad-spectrum product protection has made SymSave H a popular option for formulators seeking efficiency and multifunctional performance in a single ingredient.
For customers, the patent is positioned as an added layer of assurance around authenticity, consistent quality, and long-term supply reliability—while supporting the development of differentiated cosmetic products.
“This is a significant milestone for SymSave H and underscores our long-term commitment to innovation in the global beauty industry. It demonstrates our ongoing investment in developing and protecting proprietary technologies that create value for our customers and strengthen our competitive position in key growth markets.
"By securing this technology, we continue to deliver reliable ingredient solutions that help our customers bring differentiated, high-performing products to market," says Yohanna Sander, VP Global Head of Micro Protection at Symrise.
