Acting as an intermediary procurer, SECI will aggregate demand and ensure structured, back-to-back delivery to a dedicated commercial offtaker
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has officially issued a fresh tender seeking competitive bids for the domestic production and supply of 54,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia.
Released under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program (Mode-2A-Tranche-II), this landmark initiative marks another major milestone in India’s multi-billion-dollar mission to decarbonize its heavy industries and reduce volatile fossil fuel imports.
According to the official request for selection (RfS) floated by SECI, the selected green ammonia producers will enter into a long-term, 10-year Green Ammonia Purchase Agreement (GAPA). Acting as an intermediary procurer, SECI will aggregate demand and ensure structured, back-to-back delivery to a dedicated commercial offtaker. For this specific tranche, the clean fuel will be supplied directly to Madhya Bharat Agro Products Limited (MBAPL) to fulfill the low-carbon manufacturing requirements of its specialized fertilizer plant located in Dhule, Maharashtra.
The release of Tranche-II builds robustly upon the success of India's foundational green ammonia auctions. Earlier, SECI concluded Tranche-I of the SIGHT scheme, aggregating a massive 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually across 13 fertilizer plants nationwide. That initial rollout secured aggressive, history-making tariff discoveries, dropping to as low as Rs. 49.75 per kilogram (~$510 per metric ton).
India's agricultural and industrial sectors currently process over 20 million tons of conventional grey hydrogen each year—relying heavily on imported natural gas that leaves local supply chains vulnerable to global geopolitical disruptions.
By systematically anchoring long-term demand and extending robust payment security guarantees, SECI's latest tender offers international and domestic energy firms deep market certainty. Submissions will be selected via an electronic reverse-auction process, pushing the boundaries of clean technology innovation and shifting India's agricultural foundations toward long-term sustainability.
