Pure Lithium Corporation has secured an Australian patent for its lithium metal anode and battery technology, taking a step toward its goal of establishing domestic battery production in a country that mines about half the world’s lithium but currently produces no batteries.
The Australian patent office granted Pure Lithium patent AU2025271196, titled “Lithium metal anode and battery.” The patent covers the company’s lithium metal anode technology and its integration into a complete lithium metal battery.
Pure Lithium says the patent could help Australia move directly into next-generation battery manufacturing rather than trying to replicate the existing lithium-ion industry.
Australia’s position is striking: It is one of the world’s leading lithium producers, yet all of the batteries it uses are imported. Pure Lithium says its technology could help create a domestic supply chain stretching from lithium extraction through battery manufacturing.

“Australia is the world’s largest producer of lithium, yet it does not produce a single battery; all of that value is captured offshore. This patent strengthens our position to bring lithium metal battery production to Australia and reinforces our mission of opening up markets to build a secure battery supply chain independent of Chinese dominance.”
The patent adds to Pure Lithium’s portfolio of more than 160 patents and patent applications across multiple jurisdictions.
The company is positioning its technology as an alternative to conventional lithium-ion batteries, replacing the graphite anode with a lithium metal anode. Pure Lithium says the approach can improve energy density, cycle life and materials costs.
Its battery is designed to eliminate graphite, cobalt, nickel and manganese — materials the company says have significant supply-chain vulnerabilities because they are predominantly sourced from or refined in China.
