The subsidiaries have suffered from years of "persistently weak demand" within the European chemical sector, affecting order volumes

Three German subsidiaries of Belgian chemical giant DOMO Chemicals have filed for insolvency, the companies have confirmed. DOMO Chemicals GmbH, DOMO Caproleuna GmbH, and DOMO Engineering Plastics GmbH are affected.
The local court has appointed Lucas F Flöther, a name partner at law firm Flöther & Wissing, as preliminary insolvency administrator. Flöther said he plans to continue business operations while reviewing restructuring options.
“Day-to-day operations are continuing at all locations. Manufacturing and customer deliveries remain uninterrupted,” Flöther emphasised. He and his team are already on site informing the roughly 585 employees about the situation. Wages and salaries are secured for the next three months through insolvency benefits. “This gives us some important financial breathing room,” he added.
In the coming weeks, Flöther will work closely with creditors and company management to assess the financial situation and explore potential restructuring paths. Options could include securing an investor or negotiating a settlement with creditors.
“The German companies of the DOMO Group are among the technology leaders in their field. In addition, they have a highly capable workforce and a strong, reputable customer base,” Flöther explained. “These are not bad starting conditions, even though the market environment for chemical companies is undoubtedly challenging.”
Headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, DOMO Group manufactures polymers, engineering plastics, and high-performance fibres for the automotive, consumer, industrial goods, and electronics sectors worldwide.
Persistent weak demand in Europe, high energy costs, and rising imports of polyamide resin from non-EU countries—particularly China—have strained the business. A restructuring process began in 2024, but recent talks over short-term financing broke down, prompting the insolvency filings.
The insolvency affects only the three German entities: DOMO Chemicals GmbH in Leuna (35 employees), DOMO Caproleuna GmbH in Leuna (480 employees), and DOMO Engineering Plastics GmbH in Premnitz.
