Kemira announces closure of its Pierre-Benite site in France

Unfavorable market conditions together with an increased competition were the primary factors for the shutdown

  • By ICN Bureau | November 01, 2021
Kemira last week announced the final decision to close its manufacturing site at Pierre-Bénite in France, nearby Lyon. During the last weeks, Kemira has finalized the evaluation of the project and conducted the legally required consultation process under French labor law, including Kemira’s social and economic committee.

While having thoroughly considered the feedback received during the consultation period, Kemira has decided to implement the site’s closure in due course.

Unfavorable market conditions together with an increased competition have continuously impacted the economic situation of the Pierre-Bénite site negatively. Despite the numerous improvement efforts that have been implemented in recent years the site has not improved sufficiently for Kemira to remain competitive on its activity sector. The site produces ferric chloride and different grades of polyaluminum chloride.
