Mitsui Chemicals to expand production of high refractive index lens material

Company plans to begin commercial operations in the latter half of 2023

  • By ICN Bureau | May 27, 2021
Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. today announced plans to boost production capacity for its world-leading MR series of high refractive index lens material.

Global demand for high refractive index ophthalmic lenses is forecast to grow in the long term, fueled by an expanding Asian customer base seeking high-performance products and North American demand driven by the replacement of polycarbonate lenses. To meet this increased demand, Mitsui Chemicals plans to add to its existing MR plant at Omuta Works with a new plant that is slated to begin commercial operations in the latter half of 2023.

Via its Vision Care Materials Division, Mitsui Chemicals will continue to pursue its commitment to product development aimed at vision correction and improving the health and comfort of the eyes, based on the concept of Quality of View (QoV). It is all part of the Mitsui Chemicals Group’s effort to bring people a better view of the world.
