Sustainability to be at the centre of industry’s growth agenda at NextGen Summit 2021

The second day of the event will host a panel discussion on achieving sustainability through digital transformation and green chemistry deployment

  • By ICN Bureau | October 06, 2021

The chemical industry leaders are all set to explore the ways to strike a balance between the long term growth agenda and the innovative sustainability practices at the upcoming ‘NextGen Chemical & Petrochemical Summit 2021’ being organized by Indian Chemical News on October 7-8, 2021.

The panel discussion on the second day of the virtual summit has been appropriately titled as “Specialty Chemicals: Expanding Its Horizon.” The main theme of the event is "Moving in the big league."

The speakers are the stalwarts of the industry such as Samir Somaiya, Chairman & Managing Director, Godavari Biorefineries;  Maulik Patel, CMD, Meghmani Finechem; Ankur Singh, Head - Strategy & BD, DCM Shriram; and Sabine Pietruch, Data Analytics Engineer, TrendMiner. The session will be moderated by Pravin Prashant, Editor, Indian Chemical News.

The discussion points will include topics such as leveraging sustainable technology; achieving sustainability through digital transformation; green chemistry deployment and future challenges; waste reduction; waste management and recycling; energy and water conservation; and climate change mitigation.

The chemical industry in India is at the cusp of a new growth phase with global and Indian companies scaling up operations to meet the increased domestic and global demand. Most of the products that we consume can be traced to some form of chemical process which involves consumption of natural resources that are fast depleting. This also leads to damaging the environment if not handled sustainably.

Green Chemistry aims to reduce chemical related impact on human health and virtually eliminate contamination of the environment through dedicated, sustainable prevention measures. One of the key components of Green Chemistry is Environment Technology, also referred to as `green’ or `clean’ technology and it aims to conserve, monitor and reduce the negative impact of technology on the environment and the consumption of resources. Sustainable chemistry cannot be conducted in the absence of Green Chemistry.

‘Achieving Sustainability Through Digital Transformation’ explores how companies are using digital tools to map their environmental footprint and assess the impact of environmental shifts on their business. It shows how technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Analytics, and Energy Storage are creating positive economic, social and environmental impact while addressing global sustainability trends. The intersection of these trends, however, remains largely an unexplored territory.

Forward-thinking companies are using digitalization for clean energy to greening production processes to transform their brand equity as a sustainable company. Focus is on how digitization/digital transformation can enable companies to become successful while contributing to achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) by focusing on integrated reporting, social and environmental impact creation and responsible investment.

Most of the large chemical companies are conscious of their responsibility and have included sustainability as part of their manufacturing process. Smaller companies are in need of guidance to implement such strategies. A collaborative effort by industry, academia, and government is needed to promote the adoption of the green chemistry technologies necessary to achieve a sustainable society.

The idea behind ‘NextGen Chemicals & Petrochemicals Summit 2021’ is to provide a premier forum for the high quality deliberations. Apart from offering insights from who’s who of the chemical and petrochemical industry, it will provide ample networking opportunities with industry experts and solution providers. The participants can network with key decision makers from the chemical and petrochemical industry all under one roof with participation from CMDs, CEOs, MDs, and government officials.

The summit is supported by the leading names in the industry. Among the platinum partners are: AspenTech, Trend Miner, Elliot Group, and Tridiagonal Solutions. Featured as the gold partners of the event are: GPC, Ingenero, Durr, Evonik, Rieco, Premier Tech, and Agilent Technologies. Among the associate partners are Meghmani Finechem, Honeywell, Huntsman, Solvay, Aarti Industries, Sajjan India, Godavari Biorefineries, and Carbanio. The industry partners of the event include AMAI, PMFAI, and CCFI.
