Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Srikant Jena, has called for protection of human health and environment as also to balance the economics of industrial growth with social aspects like safety and societal benefits while aiming for the growth of chemical sector on a sustainable basis. He said this after presenting the First National Awards for Technology innovation in petrochemicals and downstream plastic processing industry 2010-11 in New Delhi today. He said that for ensuring environmentally sustainable growth, we have to develop more and more recycling technologies for plastics.

Out of a total 82 nominations, nine companies/individuals received the Awards. Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), an autonomous institute under the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers organized the function.
