HPCL signs agreement with BMC for EV charging infrastructure in Mumbai

HPCL will be providing 20 numbers EV charging units at 10 Public parking stations of BMC

An agreement was signed between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently at BMC’s Head Office to establish charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) in the Public Parking Lots (PPLs) of BMC in the city of Mumbai.

The agreement was signed in the gracious presence of P Velrasu, Addl. Municipal Commissioner-Projects, BMC, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Addl. Municipal Commissioner (Western suburbs), BMC and Sandeep Maheshwari, Executive Director-Retail, HPCL.

As a part of this initiative by the two mega entities, charging infrastructure will be set up in select PPLs across the city of Mumbai for all variants of EVs, i.e. for two, three & Four -wheeled electric vehicles (EVs), thereby decreasing carbon foot print of Mumbai. This is the first mega initiative by HPCL to set up charging stations outside retail outlets.

Maheshwari stated that HPCL is working towards reducing carbon foot print and already HPCL has installed 1500 EV charging stations across India and HPCL is committed to provide 5,000 EV stations by 2025.

Velrasu explained the need of expansion of EV charging facility and commercial viability and he also assured that BMC will support the noble cause so as to make the city cleaner and healthier. Kumar empahsised on the need for higher number of EV charging stations across Mumbai so that the citizens do not have range anxiety.

Under this project, HPCL will be providing 20 numbers EV charging units at 10 Public parking stations of BMC.
