ABB has agreed to acquire Norwegian marine automation specialist Høglund AS in a move that expands its marine automation portfolio and strengthens its position across multiple vessel segments.
The acquisition, expected to close in the third quarter of 2026 subject to customary regulatory approvals, will bring Høglund's global operations—including more than 80 employees across Norway, Poland, Romania and China—into ABB's Marine & Ports division. Høglund, headquartered in Tønsberg, Norway, is currently owned by Eitzen Group. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The transaction bolsters ABB's automation capabilities with Høglund's Integrated Automation System (IAS), a modular and scalable platform built on ABB's 800M and S800 control system hardware.
Designed for modern vessels, the system integrates automation, monitoring and control functions, combining data from engines, power generation and cargo systems to enhance safety, energy efficiency and operational performance.
Høglund's IAS has been installed on more than 600 vessels worldwide. The company generated revenue of nearly €30 million in 2025.
ABB said the acquisition will give Høglund customers access to its global service network, broader geographic footprint and expanded automation expertise, while reinforcing its own ambitions for growth in the marine sector.
"This is a significant new chapter for our people and technologies," said Peter Morsbach, Chief Executive Officer, Høglund.
"Høglund’s story is one of dedication and passion for the marine industry, and we are proud of the expertise and experience we have cultivated and the solutions we have built. Our system is based on ABB technology, and we look forward to joining ABB and continuing to advance marine automation for the benefit of customers."
"Høglund’s marine automation portfolio will complement ABB's existing offering with proven and scalable solutions that support our growth ambitions," said Rune Braastad, President, ABB’s Marine & Ports division.
"Combined with our global reach and service capabilities, we have a great foundation for continued success. We look forward to welcoming Høglund’s highly competent people to join us at ABB."
