BASF and Bunge team up to advance InVigor Gold canola ahead of 2027 US launch

Bunge will process InVigor Gold canola grain, helping establish a route to market for the new hybrid as BASF prepares to bring the technology to growers

BASF and Bunge have announced a processing agreement for InVigor Gold canola seed, marking a key milestone in the commercialization of BASF’s canola-quality Brassica juncea hybrid ahead of its planned US launch in 2027.

Under the agreement, Bunge will process InVigor Gold canola grain, helping establish a route to market for the new hybrid as BASF prepares to bring the technology to growers.

Developed for more challenging growing environments, InVigor Gold is designed to perform in hotter, drier conditions and soils with lower organic matter, potentially opening new acreage for canola production.

The grain meets canola-quality standards, as affirmed by the Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS), and can be delivered directly for processing or co-mingled with conventional black-seed canola (Brassica napus).

“Working with an industry leader like Bunge is an important step as we prepare to bring InVigor Gold to farmers doing the Biggest Job on Earth,” said Hugo Borsari, Vice President of Business Management for Seeds North America, BASF Agricultural Solutions. “InVigor Gold canola is designed to unlock new canola acres in more challenging growing environments, giving farmers another option to consider in their rotations.”

BASF first introduced InVigor Gold to growers in 2025, positioning the innovation as a way to unlock the genetic potential of canola-quality Brassica juncea. In June 2026, the company announced InVigor Gold L322, the portfolio’s first hybrid, with initial commercial availability planned for 2027 in Montana, North Dakota and Washington.

Bunge’s processing capabilities will play a key role in supporting the hybrid’s market introduction, beginning with the company’s facility in Warden, Washington.

“We’re excited to work with BASF to support the introduction of InVigor Gold to our customers,” said Mark Riou, Bunge’s Sr. Director, Canola Trading – North America. "As canola production expands, establishing reliable processing and market access is essential for grower confidence and long-term success.

"By leveraging our oilseed processing capabilities, beginning with our Warden, Washington facility, we can help create a clear pathway from farm to market while supporting the continued growth and evolution of the North American canola industry."

The agreement provides an important link between the development of InVigor Gold and its commercial rollout, as BASF and Bunge look to support expanded canola production and strengthen market access for growers across North America.
