As a result of a fire that occurred in a BASF plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany on July 29, 2024, BASF SE - also on behalf of its affected affiliates - declares Force Majeure on deliveries of selected vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid products as well as selected aroma ingredients, with immediate effect and until further notice.
The selected aroma ingredients are Ionones, Pyranol, DL-Menthol, Rose Oxides, Ethyllinalool, Nerolidol, and Isophytol R. BASF is in close contact with customers to share updates and the developments regarding the supply capability of the affected products.
The fire occurred in a BASF plant that manufactures aroma ingredients and precursors for the vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid production. All slightly injured employees could leave the Medical Center on the evening of the incident. There was no contamination of air, water, or soil. BASF’s environmental monitoring vehicles were underway inside and outside the site and did not detect any product residues. The relevant authorities have been informed.
The incident has unfortunately caused damage to the plant, which led to a shutdown and a supply disruption of the afore-mentioned products. Cleaning, inspection and repair work of the plant has started.
