Heat styling has long been associated with hair damage. Clariant is now looking to turn that equation on its head with a new active ingredient designed to make blow-drying and straightening part of the repair process.
The specialty chemicals company has launched Genadvance Revive, a 100% active ingredient that uses heat from styling tools to help repair hair damaged by bleaching, coloring and environmental stress.
Clariant says instrumental testing on bleached hair showed the ingredient can deliver up to 47% smoother hair, 52% easier detangling and a 12% improvement in hair protein integrity.
The ingredient is designed for both rinse-off and leave-on formulations, allowing heat from a blow dryer or styling tool to activate the ingredient and interact with the hair’s keratin structure. According to Clariant, the process helps seal damaged cuticles, protect the hair surface and support stronger, smoother hair.
The launch comes as consumers increasingly combine intensive coloring, chemical treatments and heat styling with a growing demand for healthier-looking hair and salon-quality results at home.
Clariant cites research showing that 65% of women regularly use heat-styling tools while also seeking healthier hair and professional-style repair results. The company says the hair restoration market is expected to nearly triple by 2032, while hair-damage management products recorded a €139 million year-on-year sales increase in key global markets between 2022 and 2023.
Genadvance Revive is positioned around a simple proposition: consumers should not have to choose between styling their hair and repairing it.
In testing, the ingredient reduced friction on bleached hair tresses by up to 47%, which Clariant says contributed to improved cuticle alignment and smoothness. It also cut the energy required for combing by 52%, potentially reducing mechanical stress during grooming.
Protein integrity improved by 12% in instrumental testing, while repeated use also showed an improvement in hair shine. Clariant further says the ingredient helps straightened hair maintain its shape in high humidity, with visibly reduced frizz.

Genadvance Revive is intended to give cosmetic formulators a flexible ingredient for the growing damage-repair category. It can be used in rinse-off and leave-in products for both professional and consumer hair care.
Clariant says the formulation is made using ingredients derived from olive and rapeseed oils, adding a sustainability angle to the new hair-care technology.
The company will showcase Genadvance Revive at in-cosmetics Latin America 2026, taking place September 23-24 at Expo Center Norte in São Paulo, Brazil.
