Croda has unveiled Malvallin, a new patent-pending botanical active designed to help brands capitalise on the rapidly growing demand for preventative skincare.
This, as consumers increasingly seek products that maintain skin health, resilience and appearance over time rather than simply addressing visible signs of ageing.
The launch strengthens Croda’s position in the premium skincare sector and reflects a major shift in consumer behaviour, particularly among Gen Y and Gen Z consumers, towards long-term skin health and wellbeing.
Developed and manufactured at Croda’s facility in France, Malvallin is the result of years of botanical research and innovation, combining the company’s expertise in plant-derived technologies, advanced skin biology, sourcing and formulation.
Derived from Chinese mallow fruit and 100% naturally derived according to ISO16128 standards, the ingredient is designed to support firmness, hydration, elasticity and visible facial volume by working across multiple layers of the skin.
The ingredient’s performance has been validated through extensive laboratory and clinical testing, providing brands with robust scientific substantiation for product claims.
Sandra Breene, President, Consumer Care, said: “Consumers are increasingly looking for products that help maintain healthy skin over the long term, creating opportunities for brands to move beyond traditional anti-ageing approaches.
“Malvallin is a clear example of how the combination of technology, naturally derived ingredients and clinically proven efficacy can help customers respond to evolving consumer expectations while supporting premium product positioning.”
Clinical studies showed visible improvements in hydration, redness, skin texture and cheek volume after just 28 days. Advanced 3D imaging and eye-tracking assessments also indicated enhanced perceived facial attractiveness.
Croda said Malvallin has been specifically developed to address several key market trends, including demand for multifunctional skincare ingredients that deliver performance across the hypodermis, dermis and epidermis while enabling simpler formulations.
The ingredient also combines botanical credentials with clinically proven efficacy, supporting premium product positioning and prevention-focused skincare claims.
Sustainability remains a key part of the proposition, with Malvallin carrying COSMOS approval, vegan compliance, and RSPO and Halal certifications, supporting responsible sourcing and formulation strategies.
Frédéric de Baene, R&D Director, Croda Beauty Actives said: “Malvallin demonstrates the strength of Croda’s approach to innovation, combining expertise in plant-derived technologies, advanced skin biology and scientific substantiation. Rather than simply targeting visible signs of ageing, we designed Malvallin to help maintain the skin’s natural structure, supporting volume, firmness and resilience over time.
“What differentiates this ingredient is the depth of evidence behind it. We have validated its performance through biological, clinical and consumer-perception studies, providing customers with strong scientific support for product claims.”
The launch further underlines Croda’s strategy of leveraging advanced skin science and naturally derived materials to develop differentiated technologies aligned with evolving trends in the global premium beauty and personal care markets.
