Dürr is stepping up its dispensing technology capabilities with the launch of the EcoMeter XS, a compact microdispensing unit engineered to apply extremely small quantities of adhesives, sealants and other high-viscosity materials with precision.
Designed primarily for battery and electronic component manufacturers, as well as electric motor producers, the new system addresses a critical manufacturing challenge: accurately dispensing minute amounts of material without compromising production efficiency.
The EcoMeter XS targets a wide range of applications, including electric vehicle battery assembly, power electronics manufacturing, magnet bonding in electric motors, grease and sealing operations, and small-volume potting processes.
Until now, Dürr has relied on its EcoShot Meter dispensing technology series for such applications. However, conventional systems can reach their performance limits when production demands exceptionally small dispensing volumes.
One key example is the spot application used in round battery cells, where a precisely controlled amount of material creates a thermal bridge between the cell and its cooling unit.
“One tenth of a cubic centimeter, applied to the front surface of the cell, is enough to establish thermal contact,” says Sebastian Jochum, Product Manager for dispensing technology at Dürr. “With the EcoMeter XS, Dürr now offers the perfect solution for these specific requirements in the manufacture of battery systems.”
The EcoMeter XS combines precise microdispensing with a continuous material flow, eliminating the refilling interruptions associated with conventional piston dosing systems.
Building on Dürr’s established continuous-dosing technology used in high-volume applications such as vehicle window bonding, the new system extends the same approach to microdispensing.
It supports flow rates ranging from 0.00005 cm³/s to 1 cm³/s, while enabling precise control of the dosing rate when materials are supplied from cartridges or hobbocks.
The result is greater flexibility for manufacturers working with extremely small application volumes and demanding production processes.
“With the EcoMeter XS, we are scaling our dispensing technology to the micro range. This allows us to offer the right dispensing solution for virtually any application volume,” says Jochum.
Weighing between 0.8 and 1.6 kg, depending on configuration, the EcoMeter XS is designed for integration into space-constrained production environments and automation systems with limited payload capacity.
Its lightweight construction enables installation on conventional robotic systems, axis gantries and low-payload robots, making it suitable for compact manufacturing cells used in battery production, electronics assembly and electric servo motor manufacturing.
The system also supports a broad range of sealing applications. A centralized dosing and process control system brings the key functions together, simplifying operation and process management.
Flexibility is central to the EcoMeter XS design. Its modular architecture supports multiple configurations and variants, allowing manufacturers to adapt the system as production requirements evolve.
The design accommodates different dispensing volumes, material viscosities and component geometries, helping manufacturers address a wider range of micro-quantity applications with a single technology platform.
With the EcoMeter XS, Dürr completes its dispensing technology portfolio, expanding its automated solutions for applying one-component (1K) and two-component (2K) adhesives and sealants.
Working alongside the established EcoShot Meter and EcoMeter SP piston dosing systems, the new unit extends Dürr’s offering from extremely small-volume microdispensing to continuous, high-volume material application.
