Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant has launched KanuFresh, a new cosmetic ingredient designed to tackle both visible perspiration and body odor while maintaining skin comfort.
Sourced from Australian kānuka leaves, KanuFresh (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (and) Kunzea Ericoides Leaf Extract) is positioned as a new approach between conventional deodorants, which primarily mask odor, and sweat-control products focused on perspiration.
According to Clariant, KanuFresh uses a multi-action mechanism to help keep skin visibly dry, fresh and comfortable while supporting a balanced skin environment. The ingredient is designed for whole-body freshness, including use on sensitive areas.
The company said a combination of in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies supports the ingredient's performance. In vitro testing indicated that KanuFresh can target both sweat and odor formation without disrupting the skin's natural microbial balance.
Clinical testing reported up to a 54% reduction in visible signs of perspiration, a 44% reduction in odor intensity and a 35% reduction in irritation. The benefits were observed under activity conditions on hands and underarms among male and female volunteers spanning skin phototypes I–VI.
The results, Clariant said, point to performance across a broad range of consumers and real-world conditions.
Sustainability is also central to the ingredient's positioning. KanuFresh is readily biodegradable and produced using 100% renewable energy. Its raw materials include RSPO Mass Balance-certified glycerin, while the ingredient is also COSMOS-compliant, vegan and halal.
KanuFresh is designed to meet major international cosmetic requirements, including Chinese regulations and NMPA standards, giving formulators a globally adaptable ingredient for next-generation deodorant and freshness products.
