Toyo Ink India, a member of Japan’s artience Group, has won the prestigious IFCA Star Award 2026 in the “Innovations in Ink” category, earning industry recognition for its advances in sustainable, high-performance packaging inks.
Presented by the Indian Flexible Packaging & Folding Carton Association (IFCA) at an awards ceremony in Mumbai, the accolade recognizes two of the company’s water-based ink innovations — JW252 Gravure Water-Based Ink and HW870 CI Flexo Water-Based Ink — developed to meet the packaging industry’s growing demand for environmentally responsible solutions without compromising performance.
The award underscores Toyo Ink India’s push to reduce the environmental impact of packaging production through ink technologies designed to lower volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, improve operational efficiency and meet stringent safety requirements.
The JW252 Gravure Water-Based Ink is a high-performance retort composite ink featuring a water-soluble formulation that eliminates traditional hazardous solvents. Designed for demanding packaging applications, it reduces VOC emissions while delivering high lamination strength and withstanding the high temperatures required for packaging sterilization.
The HW870 CI Flexo Water-Based Ink, meanwhile, is engineered for high-speed, fast-drying operations on Central Impression (CI) flexographic printing systems. Its low-residual-solvent formulation supports stringent safety and hygiene standards while maximizing colour concentration on flexible films.
Together, the two products demonstrate how water-based ink technologies can help packaging manufacturers balance print performance, production efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The recognition marks a significant milestone in Toyo Ink India’s efforts to advance sustainable growth across the packaging sector. Backed by the global artience Group, the company continues to invest in research and development to address tightening environmental expectations and the evolving needs of modern supply chains.
"This recognition by IFCA celebrates our core spirit of innovation, sustainability, and manufacturing excellence," said Shekhar Barua, Director of Toyo Ink India. "Our strategic focus remains on delivering cutting-edge, sustainable solutions that help brands and packaging converters reduce their environmental footprint."
