Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has commissioned its first, and one of India's largest, green hydrogen plant at the Bina Refinery, reaffirming its commitment to the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the country’s Net Zero targets for 2070.
The 5MW facility was virtually inaugurated on April 26, 2025, by G. Krishnakumar, Chairman and Managing Director, BPCL.
With a production capacity of more than 780 tonnes per annum, the plant is poised to achieve an annual carbon emissions reduction of approximately 9,000 tonnes, significantly supporting India’s decarbonization journey.
Equipped with two advanced electrolysers, each with a capacity of 500 Nm³/hr, the facility has been designed for maximum energy efficiency. Completed in a record time of just 15 months, the project sets a new benchmark in cost-effectiveness and execution speed among India's public sector oil marketing companies.
The commissioning marks a significant step in BPCL’s mission to achieve Net Zero in Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2040 and take India’s energy sector towards a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.
