Green hydrogen, produced via electrolysis using renewable energy, is a clean energy carrier critical for decarbonizing sectors like industry, transport, and power. However, high costs and underdeveloped infrastructure pose challenges. Countries around the world are working on rationalising the cost and minimising the energy losses in conversion. Global efforts, like the EU’s Hydrogen Strategy and India’s National Hydrogen Mission, aim to achieve $1-2/kg by 2030, making green hydrogen competitive.

Developing a cost-effective ecosystem requires cost reduction in electrolysis, renewable energy integration, building pipelines, storage facilities and refuelling stations, policy support and demand creation etc. A cost-effective ecosystem hinges on technological advancements, policy alignment, and scaled infrastructure to drive down costs and unlock green hydrogen’s potential as a cornerstone of the net-zero transition.

Points to be discussed during the panel discussion are: Cost reduction in electrolysis; Renewable energy integration; Infrastructure development; Policy support; Demand creation; R&D and innovation; Setting up green hydrogen hubs; and Developing a conducive hydrogen ecosystem.

The speakers for the Session are: Dr. M. P. Sukumaran Nair, Director, Centre for Green Technology & Management; Chandrasekhar N., Head (R&D), BPCL; Vipul Kumar Maheshwari, Executive Director - R&D, HPCL; Samir Saxena, VP – Engineering, Green Hydrogen Business, Renew; P. V. Balaramakrishna, General Manager – Technology, Larsen & Toubro; Daljit Singh Kohli, India Representative, Port of Antwerp – Bruges; Yash Gupta, Assistant Vice President- Strategy & Diversification, Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd.; and Amrit Singh Deo, Senior Managing Director, FTI Consulting. The moderator of the Session is Dr. S. S. V. Ramakumar, Executive Vice President - SPG & Chief Technology Officer, AM Green.
