SK Eco Plant expands its green hydrogen business territory to the Middle East. Countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman, which are busy finding new growth engines through ‘getting rid of oil,’ have expressed interest in green hydrogen and green ammonia projects based on renewable energy.

SK Eco Plant announced on the 14th that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with Korea South-East Power for joint cooperation in green hydrogen-green ammonia business development at its headquarters in Susong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The agreement ceremony was attended by officials from both companies, including Bae Seong-jun, Executive In Charge of Energy Strategy, SK Eco Plant and Eun Sang-pyo, Head, New Business Division, Korea South-East Power Company.

Through this agreement, SK Eco Plant will oversee and lead the business development and preliminary feasibility study of green hydrogen projects in the UAE and Oman. Korea South-East Power will support business development and review plans to import green hydrogen and green ammonia into the country as an off-taker for green hydrogen and green ammonia in the future and use them for co-fired power generation.

Both companies will first begin a preliminary feasibility study to build infrastructure for green hydrogen and green ammonia production in connection with port facilities in the Economic Zone industrial complex located in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. We are also exploring business opportunities in Oman.

SK Eco Plant is drawing a blueprint to create green hydrogen and green ammonia by decomposing water using solar electricity built on the site. The goal is to produce 50,000 tons of green hydrogen and 250,000 tons of green ammonia annually. Through this preliminary feasibility study, we plan to comprehensively verify the detailed business scale and production capacity such as green hydrogen.

Bae Seong-jun, Executive In Charge of Energy Strategy at SK Eco Plant, said, “SK Eco Plant is fully equipped with a value chain and rapid execution capabilities ranging from renewable energy development to green hydrogen production,” adding, “We are committed to capturing global green hydrogen business development opportunities in a timely manner and realizing effective supply.” “As a key player in the market, we will actively respond to the increasing demand for green hydrogen, especially in energy-consuming industries.”
