Pharma Secretary appointed Chairperson of TRAI

Dr. Vaghela is presently Secretary in Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt of India

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. P.D. Vaghela, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals as Chairperson, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for a period of three years or until he attains the age of 65 years or until further orders whichever is the earliest. 
 
For more than a year he was appointed as Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals. He was also Commissioner, Commercial Tax, Government of Gujarat from February 2014 till July 2019. He was also Chairman, Kandla Port from December 2008 - December 2013 where he focused on port management and development of port infrastructure through Public Private Partnership (PPP).
 
Also worked as District Magistrate in three districts in Gujarat from 1996-2001 and focused on overall coordination of the district administration, law and order, land management etc. 
 
As developmental head of two district councils in Gujarat from 1990-1995, he was responsible for implementation of all rural development programmes especially anti poverty programmes through local self governments at district, block and village level. He also looked after implementation of transferred functions of the state with regard to drinking water, health, minor irrigation, animal husbandry etc. and supervision over local self governments. 
 
Dr. P.D. Vaghela is B.Com. from HL College of Commerce, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad; M.A. in Public Management and Policy from Institute of ST, The Hague; Post Graduate in Business Administration from BK School of Business Management, Sardar Patel University, Gujarat; and Ph. D. in Sociology from Sardar Patel University, Gujarat.
