Godavari Biorefineries has secured a patent from the European Patent Office for its invention, “Pharmaceutical Composition and a Process to Prepare the Same,” strengthening the company’s growing intellectual property portfolio in oncology.

The patent covers a pharmaceutical composition that combines novel anti-cancer compounds with a solubilising agent, as well as the process used to prepare the formulation. The technology is aimed at improving the solubility and bioavailability of active compounds, potentially enhancing their therapeutic effectiveness.

The formulation has potential applications in the treatment of several cancers, including breast and prostate cancers, particularly through oral administration.

“In oncology research, identifying a promising compound is only one part of the challenge. How that compound is formulated can determine how effectively it can be developed for therapeutic use. Our research has focused on improving the solubility and bioavailability of these compounds, and the grant of this European patent is an important recognition of that work,” said Sangeeta Srivastava, Executive Director, Godavari Biorefineries.

The European patent marks another step in the company’s efforts to expand its R&D capabilities beyond its traditional businesses and build a stronger presence in science- and technology-led areas.

Commenting on the achievement, Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director, Godavari Biorefineries said, “Our approach to innovation has always been guided by a larger purpose, to advance health, wellbeing and sustainability while creating lasting value for all. The Sanskrit mantra meaning ‘Health for All’, reflects this purpose and reminds us that the true value of innovation lies in its ability to improve lives.

"As we look beyond our traditional businesses, our investments in R&D are enabling us to build capabilities in areas where science and technology can address meaningful societal needs. This European patent is an important milestone in that journey, strengthening our intellectual property and opening possibilities for developing solutions with potential applications in healthcare. For us, innovation is meaningful when it creates sustainable opportunities for the business while also contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future for society.”
