Henkel Adhesive Technologies has teamed up with Swedish chemical firm Sekab in a strategic push to replace fossil-based raw materials with sustainable alternatives in adhesive production.

The collaboration will focus on swapping conventional ethyl acetate for a bio-based version, advancing Henkel’s goal of leading in both innovation and sustainability.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to innovation with impact – delivering high-performance solutions that offer benefits for our customers and for the environment,” said Elodie Picard, Head of Sustainability for Henkel’s Packaging division. “We are proud to collaborate with Sekab on this important journey towards more sustainable raw materials.”

The move allows Henkel to strengthen its market position while helping customers reduce their environmental footprint. By integrating renewable materials as a drop-in solution, the company is enabling clients to hit climate targets without sacrificing performance.

Adam Lindholm, Head of Sales and Business Development at Sekab, emphasized the wider industry impact: “Our collaboration with Henkel demonstrates how fossil-free, bio-based chemicals can be integrated into existing value chains without compromising performance. This accelerates the transition towards a fossil-independent chemical industry. By working together along the value chain, we can bring scalable, sustainable raw materials to market and create tangible climate benefits.”

The Henkel-Sekab partnership forms a central pillar of Henkel’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes advancing circular solutions, cutting carbon emissions, and empowering customers with next-generation adhesive technologies.

The announcement is part of a wider wave of sustainability initiatives highlighting collaboration and climate leadership across Henkel’s global operations.
