NuSynth Technologies raises Rs. 36.5 crore in seed funding to reinvent chemical manufacturing with AI

NuSynth's platform re-engineers chemical processes by re-evaluating starting materials

NuSynth Technologies, an R&D-led process innovation platform focused on complex chemistry, has raised Rs. 36.5 crore (approximately US$4 million) in seed funding in a round co-led by Avaana Capital and Shastra VC.

The startup is targeting a critical gap in India's chemical manufacturing sector: the dependence on complex synthesis routes, imported intermediates and hazardous reagents that drive up costs, increase resource consumption and complicate commercial scale-up.

While India has built substantial chemical manufacturing capacity over the past two decades, the next frontier lies in developing proprietary chemical processes that are more efficient, sustainable and commercially competitive. NuSynth aims to address this challenge by rethinking how critical molecules are made, starting from the underlying chemistry rather than relying on incremental process improvements.

NuSynth's platform re-engineers chemical processes by re-evaluating starting materials, reaction pathways and process economics. The objective is to develop synthetic routes that deliver better cost efficiency, higher yields, shorter cycle times, improved safety and sustainability, and greater scalability.

Its approach integrates first-principles process redesign with predictive synthesis models, while factoring in manufacturability, raw-material economics, safety and quality from the outset.

The company is also building an AI-powered learning engine that converts experimental results into a proprietary knowledge base. Each R&D programme adds to this intelligence, helping accelerate molecule selection, experimentation and commercial scale-up while potentially shortening traditional R&D timelines.

Rather than developing isolated solutions, NuSynth is building a repeatable process innovation platform that can be deployed across chemistry-led industries. The company plans to begin with high-value sectors such as pharmaceuticals and electronics chemicals before expanding into other markets.

“Over the last two decades, India has built significant strength at manufacturing established chemistry. We believe the next chapter will be defined by our ability to innovate on the underlying chemistry itself. At NuSynth, we are going back to first principles - questioning established routes, redesigning processes and engineering them for commercial scale from day one.

"Our ambition is to build proprietary processes from India that can deliver superior economics and sustainability, and serve customers across global markets,” said Poorvank Purohit, Co-Founder & CEO, NuSynth Technologies.

NuSynth brings together a founding team with experience spanning scientific research, pharmaceutical manufacturing, commercialisation and business building.

Purohit, former MD & CEO of Solara Active Pharma Sciences, brings industry experience and global customer relationships. Ramesha A R, a postdoctoral researcher from NIH, Washington, and a PhD graduate from IISc, contributes scientific and R&D expertise.

Abhishek Deo and Dipak Bajaj bring commercial and operating experience from Zetwerk, Mstack, Ola, JPMorgan, BlackBuck and SUN Mobility. Collectively, the team has been involved in multiple zero-to-scale journeys, including businesses that have reached unicorn status and achieved public-market milestones.

The fresh capital will support the expansion of NuSynth's R&D and technology capabilities, development of its initial portfolio of proprietary chemical processes, scale-up infrastructure and team.

For investors, the opportunity lies in building differentiated process intellectual property that can improve the economics and resilience of chemical manufacturing while creating globally competitive technology platforms from India.

Shruti Srivastava, Partner at Avaana Capital, said: “The next phase of India’s growth in high-performance industrial chemistry will increasingly be shaped by the ability to originate proprietary synthesis pathways that are fundamentally more efficient and commercially scalable over time.

"NuSynth brings together deep expertise across R&D, innovation and commercial scale-up, combining first-principles approach with AI, to build differentiated process IP from India. We believe this approach will improve the economics, resource efficiency and resilience of chemical manufacturing across critical sectors, while creating globally competitive technology platforms from India.”

Avijeet Alagathi, Managing Partner at Shastra VC, said: “What excites us about NuSynth is how they are using AI to make chemical R&D faster and more efficient. By learning from each experiment, they reduce trial and error and shorten timelines for developing and scaling new chemistries.

"The founding team brings together a rare combination of scientific depth, industry experience, and execution capability, and we believe this combination, along with its data and an AI engine, strongly positions NuSynth to build a differentiated process innovation platform from India for global markets.”

With the new funding, NuSynth is positioning itself to move beyond conventional process optimisation and develop proprietary chemistry designed for commercial viability from the outset. Its larger ambition is to build an innovation engine that turns scientific discovery into scalable industrial processes, strengthening India's capabilities in chemical technology and serving customers across global markets.
