With tougher recycled-content targets on the horizon in Europe, Clarios is expanding its recycled plastics portfolio, offering automotive manufacturers high-performance polypropylene compounds made from 100% post-consumer recycled material.
The expanded Seculene portfolio features polypropylene (PP) compounds made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, designed for applications ranging from battery housings and bumpers to underbody components and vehicle interiors.
The move comes as the European Union prepares to tighten recycled-plastic requirements for new vehicles, putting pressure on automakers and suppliers to secure reliable supplies of high-performance recycled materials.
The proposed European End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Regulation sets minimum recycled-plastic content targets of 15 percent by 2032 and 25 percent by 2036. It also requires a defined share of recycled material to come from end-of-life vehicles, strengthening the push towards a more circular automotive supply chain.
Against this backdrop, Clarios is expanding its Seculene business at its Hanover site and strengthening its operations at recycling facilities in Freiberg and Braubach, acquired in May 2026. The expansion is aimed at building capabilities across the polypropylene recycling and compounding value chain while reinforcing the company's supply of recycled materials to the automotive sector.
“We are reaffirming Clarios' commitment to circular value creation, resilient European supply chains, and reliable customer partnerships by expanding our polypropylene recycling and compounding capabilities," said Christian Rosenkranz, Vice President Industry and Government Relations EMEA at Clarios.
The portfolio comprises approximately 30 material grades, including unfilled and filled polypropylene compounds and PP-EPDM compounds.
A key offering is a flame-retardant polypropylene compound with UL 94 V0 certification, supported by a UL Yellow Card, designed to meet stringent fire-safety requirements and enable use in safety-critical applications.
