Caldic, a global distributor and development partner serving the life sciences and material sciences sectors, has officially opened its new Food Innovation Hub (iHub) in India, strengthening its Food & Nutrition capabilities and positioning the country as a key innovation base for the Asia-Pacific region.
Located in Taloja, Mumbai, the new Food iHub will serve as a Center of Excellence for Food & Nutrition, bringing together food formulation and application expertise with advanced laboratory, pilot plant and blending capabilities. The facility is designed to help Caldic work with customers and principal partners to develop, test and scale food solutions more rapidly.
“Our Innovation Hub is a key driver of our Food & Nutrition strategy. It will accelerate innovation with our customers and principals to deliver better and more specialized solutions while bringing them to market faster across APAC and globally,” says Knud Mohr, Chief Executive Officer, Caldic APAC.
“It is specifically equipped to address evolving market demands in areas such as nutritional fortification, enhancing texture, and improving taste making it a launchpad for growth across key Food & Nutrition segments.”
The facility combines application laboratories and testing capabilities with sourcing, packing and regulatory expertise, enabling Caldic to offer customers an end-to-end development and supply solution tailored to local requirements. The setup is also intended to improve supply-chain agility and support faster commercialization.
“This state-of-the-art facility reflects our commitment to operational excellence and advanced technology. Combining application laboratories, pilot plants, and blending facilities will allow us to adapt and scale Caldic solutions across the globe and tailor these to suit our local customers while opening new sales channels for our principal partners,” says Steve Crockett, Commercial Director, Caldic APAC.
Caldic said sustainability was incorporated into the facility's design from the outset. The site includes provisions for solar energy, while its location in Taloja provides access to multimodal transport infrastructure, including rail, port and air connectivity.
The location within a major industrial zone is also expected to facilitate closer collaboration with food industry players and strengthen the hub's role in Caldic's wider APAC innovation network.
“India is one of Caldic’s most important growth markets, with rapidly evolving consumer preferences and increasing demand for differentiated, locally relevant food solutions,” says Smita Shetty, Managing Director, Caldic India. “At the same time, India is playing an increasingly important role in the global food industry. iHub Food strengthens India’s position as an innovation and production hub for Caldic, enabling us to support customers across APAC and other regions.”
With the new Food iHub, Caldic is expanding its ability to develop locally relevant food solutions while leveraging India's growing role in global food innovation and production.
