Evonik has upgraded the logistics infrastructure for its MetAMINO® (DL-methionine) animal feed additive at its Antwerp, Belgium, site. The improvements, implemented during a shutdown in September and October 2025, include a new, automated filling system for bulk bags and expanded storage capacity.

The modernization includes the installation of a fully automated filling system for big bags and the expansion of storage capacity, allowing Evonik to better meet customer demands for customized packaging solutions. These enhancements not only strengthen operational flexibility but also improve occupational safety and contribute to the global supply security of MetAMINO.

“We are observing a growing demand for larger packaging units in the methionine market,” said Dr. Dirk Hoehler, who leads the amino acid business of Evonik Animal Nutrition. “With our new state-of-the-art filling facility, we are well equipped to meet both current and future customer requirements.”

In addition to big bags (1,000 kilograms), MetAMINO from Antwerp is also available in 25-kilogram bags and as bulk material. Earlier this year, Evonik introduced a more sustainable 25-kilogram packaging made from just two layers of paper, eliminating the previous plastic layer. This innovation has reduced the CO₂ footprint of the packaging by 20 per cent.

Evonik supplies the growing global feed market from three world-scale methionine production hubs located in Antwerp (Belgium), Mobile (Alabama, USA), and Singapore. Together, these sites provide an annual production capacity exceeding 700,000 metric tons.
