KRAHN Chemie expands Nouryon partnership across DACH markets

The expanded agreement targets the coatings and construction markets

KRAHN Chemie is broadening its partnership with Nouryon, taking on distribution of the specialty chemicals producer’s cellulose ethers, cellulose-based polymers and selected surfactants across Germany, Austria and Switzerland from October.

The expanded agreement targets the coatings and construction markets, giving customers across the DACH region local access to a wider portfolio of rheology modifiers and formulation technologies.

At the heart of the portfolio are Nouryon’s Bermocoll EHEC (ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose) and MEHEC (methyl ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose) non-ionic cellulose ethers. Designed for applications including water-based coatings and construction products, the cellulose-based rheology modifiers are engineered to deliver specific performance characteristics.

Manufactured through a solvent-free process, Bermocoll products are based on cellulose, a natural polymer derived from wood or cotton linters. They are supplied as whitish, free-flowing powders in different particle sizes. Nouryon is the world’s sole manufacturer of these technologies.

“Through our partnership with Nouryon, we are bringing these innovative products to the German, Austrian and Swiss markets, ensuring reliable local supply. By combining our technical expertise and application-focused support, we help customers turn their performance requirements into real-world solutions,” explains Karlheinz Schuster, Managing Director of KRAHN Chemie Deutschland.

The expanded portfolio also supports KRAHN’s wider sustainability offering. Alongside its product range and technical application support, the company provides services including LCA impact assessments, sustainability workshops and regulatory support, aimed at helping customers address both environmental and business objectives.

Beyond Bermocoll, KRAHN Chemie will distribute Nouryon’s Finnfix and Akucell cellulose-based polymers, as well as selected Amadol surfactants. The expanded range is intended to give coatings and construction formulators a broader set of formulation tools from a single distribution partner.

The agreement builds on an established relationship between the two companies. KRAHN has partnered with Nouryon in paints and coatings for more than a decade across the Benelux and Nordic regions. KRAHN Nordics and SPECIALITIES s.r.l., both part of the KRAHN Chemie Group, also collaborate with Nouryon in the Home and Personal Care segments.

Joseph Ferrara, Vice President of Paints & Coatings at Nouryon says: “KRAHN Chemie has been a valuable partner for us. Their strong product expertise and their established relationships throughout the DACH region provide an excellent platform for expanding the reach of our solutions and delivering value to customers.”

The latest expansion strengthens the companies’ long-standing collaboration while giving coatings and construction customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland access to Nouryon’s cellulose and surfactant technologies through KRAHN Chemie.
