The main objective of NextGen Summit 2025 is to highlight the current market dynamics that offers India a great opportunity to become self-reliant in the chemicals and petrochemicals sectors. India needs to connect all dots such as infrastructure, R&D, industry-academia partnership, supply chain, sustainability, renewable energy, public private partnership (PPP) etc. in order to realise the potential of chemicals and petrochemicals sectors.
The summit aims to bring some of the great minds of the industry to delve deep, and devise an implementation mechanism to realize the set goal of the Indian chemical industry i.e. to achieve US $2 Trillion by 2047. Along with the summit, there is an expo where exhibitors will showcase their latest innovations, technologies, products and other offerings to enhance sustainability, digitalization, and safety of the industry at large.
Chemical industry stands at a pivotal moment where sustainability, renewable energy, and the circular economy are critical drivers of future growth and resilience. There is a need to develop processes to lower greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and pollution (e.g., green chemistry principles). Industry also needs to adapt to stringent global regulations like the EU’s Green Deal or REACH as demand for eco-friendly products are growing.
Here, the role of renewable energy becomes more important. Industry is gradually shifting from fossil fuels to renewable sources for energy-intensive chemical processes. However, there is a need to balance the high initial costs of renewable energy infrastructure with long-term savings and energy security. There is a need to combine renewable energy with circular economy principles for maximum impact. Industry is developing chemical recycling technologies for plastics (e.g., pyrolysis) to recover monomers for new polymers, reducing reliance on virgin materials.
Sustainability, renewable energy, and the circular economy are interconnected pillars essential for the chemical industry’s transformation. By embracing these principles, the industry can achieve environmental stewardship, economic resilience, and competitive advantage. However, success requires overcoming technological, economic, and systemic barriers through innovation, collaboration, and supportive policies.
Points to be discussed during the session are: Environmental impact reduction; Regulatory compliance; Consumer and investor pressure; Life cycle assessment; Energy transition; Carbon capture and utilization; Design for circularity; Closed-loop systems; Recycling and reuse; Economic viability; and Industry-academia collaboration.
Speakers are: Dr. Ajay Ranka, Chairman & MD, Zydex Group; R. G. Krishnan, Jt. President and Head – Safety , Sustainability, Tech.
