BYK-Gardner GmbH, the measurement instruments subsidiary of specialty chemicals group ALTANA, has acquired perisens GmbH, a Feldkirchen-based developer of radar testing and measurement systems used in automotive applications for autonomous driving.
The company specializes in equipment that evaluates automotive radar sensors and radomes—protective covers for radar units—ensuring that coatings used on plastic vehicle components do not interfere with radar performance or weaken signal transmission.
The acquisition marks a strategic expansion for ALTANA’s BYK division into advanced radar measurement technology, broadening its existing portfolio beyond color and gloss measurement systems. Founded in 2009 as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich, perisens will be integrated into BYK-Gardner, headquartered in Geretsried, Bavaria. All perisens employees will transfer to the company as part of the deal.
perisens’ patented RMS-C and RMS-D radome measurement systems are already widely deployed in development, quality control, and serial production environments. Since 2014, the technology has been used globally by leading automakers, radar sensor manufacturers, plastics suppliers, and coatings and pigment producers.
The systems are designed for both laboratory testing and integration into robot-controlled production lines, enabling precise monitoring of coated plastic automotive components used in radar-equipped vehicles.
Explaining the strategic fit, Jörg Hinnerwisch, Division President of BYK, said: “perisens’ radar measurement instruments are a perfect complement to BYK-Gardner’s innovative color and gloss measurement instruments. This is state-of-the-art technology with excellent prospects for the future.”
perisens leadership welcomed the move as a catalyst for growth. Florian Pfeiffer, Managing Partner of perisens, said: “The integration of perisens into BYK-Gardner will enable us to further develop our existing testing and measurement instruments even faster, increase brand awareness, and consistently drive innovation forward.”
