Membrane Group India, a major Indian provider of advanced process water and wastewater treatment solutions, has announced the formation of a joint venture with Japan’s Kurita Water Industries, a global leader in water treatment technologies.
The new entity, Kurita Membrane India Private Limited, has been established with a significant capital commitment from both partners. It is aimed at becoming a key solutions provider for India’s fast-growing semiconductor and advanced electronics manufacturing sectors, offering high-end water and wastewater treatment systems tailored for industrial scale-up.
The partnership brings together Kurita’s global expertise in water treatment—especially in semiconductor applications, built on its “Water Intelligence” legacy—with Membrane Group’s engineering strength, manufacturing capabilities, and project execution experience in India.
The combined platform is positioned to deliver localized, world-class infrastructure for complex water needs in high-tech manufacturing.
Commenting on the JV, Peeyush Narang , Managing Director- Membrane Group, said, "India has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish itself as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. Achieving this vision will require world-class infrastructure, and water will be one of its most critical enablers.
"Our vision is to ensure that India's semiconductor industry has access to world-class ultrapure water, wastewater recycling, and sustainable water management solutions. Kurita brings global leadership in semiconductor water technologies, while Membrane Group contributes decades of engineering, manufacturing, and project execution expertise in India.
"Together, we are committed to building a platform that enables sustainable manufacturing, conserves water resources, and supports India's technological progress with world-class water infrastructure for the next generation of semiconductor and advanced electronics manufacturing."
The companies say the venture reflects a broader long-term strategy to deliver globally benchmarked technologies that improve water efficiency, increase wastewater recycling, recover resources, and reduce environmental impact.
It also marks a strategic expansion for Membrane Group into India’s emerging semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, backed by GEF Capital Partners, a global private equity investor focused on sustainability and resource efficiency.
Kurita Membrane India will offer a full suite of water solutions, including Ultrapure Water (UPW) systems for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, industrial water and wastewater treatment systems, wastewater reclamation and reuse solutions, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems, resource recovery technologies, and water analysis and laboratory services.
It will also provide end-to-end engineering, installation, commissioning, and operations support, alongside a dedicated Ultrapure Water Analysis Centre for testing and process optimization.
