thyssenkrupp nucera commissions advanced chlor-alkali plant for chlorum solutions in Brazil

The new facility, now fully operational, strengthens Chlorum Solutions’ production capabilities in southern Brazil with an annual capacity of more than 15,000 tons of chlorine

thyssenkrupp nucera has successfully commissioned and handed over a state-of-the-art chlor-alkali electrolysis plant to Chlorum Solutions in Palmeira, Brazil, marking another major step in the companies’ partnership to expand sustainable chemical production in the region.
 
The new facility, now fully operational, strengthens Chlorum Solutions’ production capabilities in southern Brazil with an annual capacity of more than 15,000 tons of chlorine. The modular skid-mounted plant features thyssenkrupp nucera’s advanced BM2.7 single-element membrane electrolysis technology, designed to deliver high energy efficiency and significant energy savings.
 
The successful start-up followed close cooperation between thyssenkrupp nucera’s global project teams and Chlorum Solutions’ local organization. The partners’ coordinated approach helped ensure a smooth commissioning process and a rapid transition to full operations.

The Palmeira project was delivered under an engineering and procurement scope and includes thyssenkrupp nucera’s proven zero-gap membrane electrolysis system. The BM2.7 technology combines an increased usable membrane area with a full zero-gap design, reducing energy consumption while improving overall efficiency.
 
Designed specifically for smaller-scale chlorine producers, thyssenkrupp nucera’s skid-mounted plants use standardized, pre-assembled modules installed on steel skids. This modular approach simplifies transportation, reduces construction costs and enables faster, more cost-effective installation.
 
Sustainability was a key priority for the project. In line with Chlorum Solutions’ focus on environmentally responsible chlorine supply, the plant meets strict requirements for energy efficiency and renewable energy use. The facility is powered entirely by electricity generated from renewable sources.

With the Palmeira plant now operational, Chlorum Solutions is expanding its regional footprint and strengthening its ability to supply essential industrial chemicals, including chlorine, soda, hydrochloric acid and hypochlorite.
