Toray Industries has secured an order to supply low-fouling reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for a major new wastewater treatment plant in Singapore, strengthening its role in the city-state’s long-running drive to expand water reuse.
The membranes will be deployed at the Changi NEWater Factory (CNF3), a large-scale used water treatment facility being developed by Singapore’s national water agency, PUB. The plant is designed to treat 50 million gallons of water per day and is targeted for completion in 2028.
Sanli M&E Engineering Pte. Ltd. was awarded the contract to construct CNF3, while Toray Asia Pte. Ltd. will supply the RO membranes and provide sales and technical support.
The order adds to Toray’s extensive track record in Singapore, where the company has supplied water-treatment membranes for major infrastructure projects, including multiple NEWater and desalination plants.
Toray said the latest order reflects the long-term performance of its low-fouling RO membranes in wastewater reclamation, a technology increasingly critical as cities face growing pressure on water supplies.
Demand for RO membranes is expanding globally, driven by population growth, industrial development, worsening water shortages linked to climate change and increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
Toray said it will continue strengthening its water-treatment business by advancing membrane technologies, expanding global production capabilities and enhancing technical support. The company said these efforts will support the effective use and stable supply of water resources across the Asia-Pacific region and globally.
