AM Green has won the Asian lot in Germany’s H2Global auction, securing a long-term agreement to supply renewable ammonia to the German market in a deal valued at a minimum €585 million over 10 years.
In fact, AM Green Green Ammonia (India) Private Limited was selected as the sole winner after its bid ranked first among the submissions received in a competitive tender conducted by HINT.CO GmbH (Hintco).
Under the agreement, Hintco will purchase renewable ammonia from AM Green for a minimum value of €585 million. It can also purchase additional volumes quoted by AM Green using proceeds from the resale of green ammonia in the European market.
The ammonia will be produced at AM Green’s Kakinada Phase 2 project in Andhra Pradesh, where the company is converting an existing natural gas-based ammonia and urea complex into a renewable ammonia production facility based on alkaline electrolysis.
The project will use AM Green’s round-the-clock renewable power architecture, backed by pumped-hydro storage, to meet European Union requirements for renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO).
The first shipments to Germany are expected in 2029, with the ammonia to be exported through Kakinada Seaports, located alongside the production facility.
The award strengthens AM Green’s push to establish India as a major supplier of renewable molecules to Europe and marks another step in the development of large-scale green ammonia production in the country.
For H2Global, the deal also highlights the role of its double-auction model in providing long-term market certainty to renewable fuel producers while helping European buyers secure supplies of clean hydrogen-based products.
Timo Bollerhey, CEO of Hintco and Co-Founder of H2Global, said: "This result shows a market gaining rapid momentum. Strong bids from serious developers have demonstrated the growing maturity of renewable ammonia projects since the pilot tender. A long-term contract gives producers like AM Green the certainty to invest and secures reliable supply for European buyers. We thank every bidder and hope to see them in future rounds."
Markus Exenberger, Executive Director of the H2Global Foundation and Co-Founder of H2Global, said: "Repeated disruptions to fossil fuel supply chains have been felt worldwide. Renewable ammonia carries clean power across oceans to industries that cannot be fully electrified, with little or no carbon emissions. H2Global is bringing together governments and industry to build resilient global supply chains for clean energy and commodities."
Mahesh Kolli, Group President, and JMD of AM Green, said: "We are immensely proud that AM Green has been selected as the winner of the H2Global Asian lot. This landmark achievement consolidates AM Green’s position as the supplier of choice for renewable ammonia to Germany and wider Europe, and demonstrates that optimally priced green molecules can be delivered from India at an industrial scale.
"Winning through a binding competitive process is a strong validation of the readiness of our platform. From Kakinada, we will deliver renewable ammonia to European and Asian customers, turning ambitious decarbonisation targets into real industrial emissions reductions. This is an important milestone for AM Green, and only the beginning of the role we intend to play in building a global market for renewable molecules."
